Dear Family and Friends,

As many of you know I completed my first marathon in January ‘03 in Walt Disney World as a member of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program. I never thought there would be a day that I would actually walk 26.2 miles at once! This definitely was not an easy task by far, but definitely a very rewarding one. I also completed a half-marathon here in Dallas in May ’04. I was able to raise approximately $5,000 for Leukemia research while training for my events. I would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported me and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the past couple of years, I had a blast! I could not have accomplished these great tasks without you.

And guess what….I’m crazy enough to do it again!!! This time I’m staying a little closer to home and will compete in the Freescale Austin Marathon on February 19, 2006. But this time it is very different. Since my last event someone very dear to me has been diagnosed with cancer. My best friend’s mom, Sharon Swayne, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. I know stomach cancer and leukemia are two totally different cancers, but I truly believe that finding a cure to one cancer will open a multitude of doors to find the cure to all cancers. So I am extremely motivated by Sharon’s strength and courage to undergo this tremendous journey. I am very excited to be racing on her behalf. I am also racing in celebration of a cancer survivor! My boyfriend’s mom, Cheryl Loudermilk, has been in remission from breast cancer for 2 years now.

Through Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program, I will have a coach, a training schedule, a nutritional advisor and the support of a great group of athletes with a common goal, to raise funds to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its battle against leukemia. My personal goal is to raise $2,000 for the program.

I am writing to ask for your support by contributing as generously as you can to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on my behalf as well as Sharon’s. Your tax-deductible contribution will help fund the research being done in finding a cure for leukemia. Leukemia research is considered to be the window to the treatment and cure for all cancers. Significant progress has been made in the treatment of this disease and researchers are now optimistic that they will find a cure within 6 years! Increased funding is the key.

As I strive to train for and complete my next 26.2 miles, your partnership will help inspire me to cross the finish line. Please join me in this great challenge. NO DONATION IS TOO GREAT OR SMALL…every bit helps! You can make a donation by cash, check or credit card. Checks can be made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (or LLS if you don’t feel like writing that out!!). Please be sure to check with your company to see if they will match donations made by its employees, and include the matching gift form with your donation (Please ask your human resources department if you are unsure).

I feel that this is a worthy cause and plan to spend the rest of the summer and fall training and raising money for the Society. If you are unable to contribute financially at this time, I ask that you keep me, my very best friend Dani and her mom, and everyone involved in The Leukemia Society in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you in advance for supporting me in my efforts and for supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

With love and appreciation,

Tamara Coker
